Marie-Claire leads the Primary Pharmacology Group at Pfizer, which delivers critical assay support driving the small molecule portfolios of the Research Units from exploratory stage to clinical candidate selection. Marie-Claire holds a B.Pharm. Hons. degree in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Physiology & Pharmacology from the University of Nottingham U.K. She conducted postdoctoral work at Yale University in the department of Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry and the Department of Molecular Psychiatry.  Prior to Pfizer Marie-Claire gained experience at The Wellcome Foundation and also at Guy’s Hospital, London, UK. 
Marie-Claire has been at Pfizer for 20 years holding leadership positions in Exploratory Medicinal Sciences, the CVMED Research Unit, the Research Centers of Emphasis and Pharmacokinetics Dynamics & Metabolism. She is a registered member of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, The New York Academy of Sciences and Women In Bio. She is on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Southeastern CT and is the Executive Sponsor for the Pfizer Women’s Resource Group.

Professor Asif Ahmed is a world-renowned vascular scientist, who established Aston Medical School and is the founder of <a href="https://www.mirzyme.com/">MirZyme Therapeutics</a>, a biopharmaceutical company developing diagnostics and drugs to address the unmet medical needs and prevent disorders of pregnancy. He discovered two protective pathways that put the ‘brakes’ on preeclampsia; a life-threatening condition in pregnancy. He has championed social mobility, international connectivity and translational research. Before becoming the inaugural Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health in 2012, he was the Gustav Born Chair of Vascular Biology at the University of Edinburgh. He is the recipient of the 7th British Muslim Awards for ‘Services to Education’ in 2019.
Founder of <a href="https://www.mirzyme.com/">MirZyme Therapeutics</a> with globally granted patents to prevent preeclampsia. Discoverer of two protective pathways to stop preeclampsia during pregnancy. Founder of the most socially inclusive medical school in the United Kingdom.
Professor Ahmed is a research-minded visionary communicator and possesses entrepreneurial energy and the ability to identify opportunities for growth. He helps to shape the future direction of organisations with his ability to empower others and encourage them to make meaningful contributions to the organisation and wider society.
Most of Professor Ahmed’s academic life was spent in top research-intensive universities. He moved to Aston to bring about a transformational change in Birmingham by establishing the most socially inclusive medical school in the United Kingdom. He wanted to ensure that the school had innovative medical education, inclusive leadership, and a focus on research at the core of its model, but did not compromise entry standards in selecting students from hard-to-reach backgrounds. His message to his medical school staff was simple “Inspire to Aspire”.
Professor Ahmed’s drive is to ensure that his discoveries translate so that no woman who chooses to have a baby ever needs to fear the silent killer preeclampsia. MirZyme and Professor Ahmed are leading a targeted therapeutic approach to prevent preeclampsia.
