Global Head, Pre-Clinical and Translational Sciences Takeda

Deepak has recently been appointed Head of Translational Sciences US in Sanofi’s Research Platform. Prior to joining Sanofi in 2019 as Head of Bioinformatics for Translational Sciences US, Deepak was a Senior Scientific Director at GSK heading a US Computational Biology team that had a multi-therapy area engagement role for supporting and progressing the pipeline.  During his 16-year career at GSK, he was responsible for leading strategic computational partnerships in multiple therapy areas, internal, and also external to GSK, across the globe.  As a senior member of the global computational biology team, he had responsibilities of creating vision, and setting the strategic direction for the team in a scientifically innovative and fiscally responsible manner.  In addition to his experience in Computational Biology, he also co-led drug discovery programs and has broad experience in developing indication-expansion and biomarker strategies.  He has co-authored over 45 publications, with several in high-impact journals.  He has represented his organization at many consortia and has given numerous presentations across the globe.  In addition to serving on several scientific advisory boards, including an NIH panel, he also served as a Bioinformatics scientific advisory board member of PhRMA foundation, that granted many fellowships to graduate, post-graduate, and tenure track scientists.  Currently, he serves on the strategic advisory board of North Carolina State University’s Computer Science department and has been a member of many outreach activities to serve the communities that he has been part of.

Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pedamallu

Vice President, Bioinformatics Excelra

Chandra Sekhar Pedamallu comes with extensive experience in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology specializing in cancer genomics. Before joining Excelra, Chandra was associated with Sanofi Inc., identifying novel drug targets in Oncology (Molecular and Immuno-oncology). Prior to Sanofi, he was at Dr. Meyerson Lab, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and a visiting scientist at The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. During his6-year tenure at Harvard, he led microbial analysis, pathogen discovery projects in cancer and other diseases. He has contributed substantially to over a dozen projects under the auspices of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).
Chandra holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering (area of research : Global Optimization) from School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has co-authored over 85 manuscripts, published in highly reputed journals including Nature, Nature Genetics, Science, Cell, PNAS, etc., and has been inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB).

Hongyue Dai

Vice President, Translational Bioinformatics LifeMine Therapeutics

Hongyue Dai joined Cygnal Therapeutics in 2019. He formerly served as chief scientific officer (CSO) and chief bioinformatics officer (CBIO) at M2Gen, where he helped build the ORIEN, a cancer center network, to connect cancer hospitals with pharma companies for cancer research and drug development. While at M2Gen, Hongyue filed more than 10 patents on cancer prognosis models covering various cancer types.
Hongyue also served as Executive Director of Informatics & Analysis in Discovery & Preclinical Sciences at Merck Research Labs. He managed genomics and genetics projects to support all therapeutic franchises for target identification, biomarker discovery, compound prioritization, and translating biomarkers in clinical trials.
Prior to Merck, Hongyue was Research Associate Professor in the Physics Department at the University of Utah, where he analyzed and defended the highest energy cosmic ray particle, also known as the Oh-My-God or OMG particle. He then took on the role of Senior Data Analyst at Rosetta, where he co-developed the first microarray data error model to characterize the data uncertainty. He made significant contributions to the first FDA-approved multi-gene test kit for breast cancer prognosis, the MammaPrint. He also collaborated with Celera to develop the 14-gene test kit for ER-positive breast cancer patients.
Hongyue received his undergraduate degree in nuclear physics from Peking University and his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science.

Lihua Yu

Chief Data Officer FogPharma

As FogPharma’s chief data officer, Lihua Yu is responsible for the development and implementation of data science strategy across all R&D functions and research programs, as well as establishing digital and machine learning platform to power the design-make-test-predict cycle of the company’s proprietary Helicon™ discovery platform. Lihua brings more than 20 years of experience and leadership in data science across computational biology, cancer genomics, research informatics, clinical genomics, real world data and evidence.
Prior to joining FogPharma, Lihua was the president and chief data science officer at H3 Biomedicine and served in multiple roles during her tenure of nearly a decade. She established H3 as a bioinformatics powerhouse studying splicing regulation in cancer, and is recognized with AACR 2020 Team Science Awards for their contribution to Pan-Cancer Atlas. At H3, she held overall responsibilities for the company’s R&D and was responsible for driving the expanded use of data and technology and leading the creation of a data science/cancer genomics/information-sharing engine supporting all phases of drug discovery and early clinical development. Lihua led H3 during its transition from a drug discovery company to an early phase drug development company. Prior to H3, she was the cancer bioinformatics leader at AstraZeneca and held roles of increasing responsibility from 2000 to 2011.
Lihua holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Boston University working under Dr. Temple Smith, and her M.S. and B.S. in biomedical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Lalit Verma

Lalit Verma is an executive leader with 25+ years of progressive experience in the design, development, delivery, and management of digital technology solutions across global life-science corporations, including genomics, human & animal health, and agro-chemical industries. An advocate of human & animal health, Lalit is passionate about advancing healthy living through applied information technology, data science, and machine learning products and services.
Lalit holds postgraduate degrees in Physics and Computer Science. From 1990 to 1999, he taught Electronics Honors undergraduate students at Delhi University and served as the department chair. Since 2002, he has served the life science industry as a bioinformatician and technical leader.
At present, he is leading a global team of engineers, scientists, and project managers as Global Head of the Pre-clinical Sciences & Translational Safety Data Science at Janssen, the pharmaceutical division of Johnson & Johnson. He leads from the front in providing cutting-edge AI/ML/Deep Learning-based pre-clinical safety-related scientific workflow automation and data-driven decision-making, ensuring speedy regulatory submissions, first in human recommendations, and overall R&D pipeline cycle time reduction. He has authored bioinformatics and clinical algorithms, regulatory documents, and articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

Vikas Patel is an accomplished global leader in life sciences R&D, bringing over 25 years of expertise in digital transformation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence within the healthcare sector. Most recently, Vikas was the Global Head of R&D Data, AI, and Analytics Products at Sanofi, where he drove innovative strategies that enhance decision-making and optimize processes across the R&D value chain. Previously, Vikas spent 15 years at Merck Pharmaceuticals, where he led the Agile transformation of a large digital R&D team and managed IT solutions across research domains. His notable achievements include the Real World Data Exchange Platform and implementing cutting-edge lab technologies that revolutionized scientific workflows. Vikas began his career in management consulting at Capgemini, where he led large-scale digital technology programs across several industry verticals. He holds a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
