Session – Commercial-scale manufacturing at lower COGS Dr. Sun is currently Senior Director, Specialty Medicine Search & Evaluation, Global Business Development. His current focus is in Cardiovascular, Immunology, and Rare Diseases therapeutic areas. Dr. Sun joined Daiichi Sankyo Japan in April 2002. He was initially assigned to Pharmacology and Molecular Biology Research Laboratories after he started his researcher’s career as an associate researcher. He was involved in a broad range of R&D activities from target discovery to clinical development of a number of anti-diabetes drugs. In October 2005, Dr. Sun was promoted to Assistant Manager, R&D Strategy Department, where he was responsible for global research alliances and providing analysis for evaluating new business opportunities such as in/out-licensing, collaborative research and development agreements in Daiichi Sankyo Japan. Dr. Sun contributed to the contract negotiation with other biotech firms many times, and consequently obtained a great deal of knowledge and experience in research alliances with biotech firms in the U.S. In October 2007, Dr. Sun was elected to be assigned to work for Daiichi Sankyo Research Institute in the U.S. as Manager, Research Planning. He was responsible for identifying and evaluating in-licensing, partnering and research collaboration opportunities. Dr. Sun has proven that he is capable of fulfilling duties with increased responsibilities. He was promoted to Associate Director in 2008, Director in 2009 and Senior Director in 2015.
