Christian Baber, is a chemist by training and holds undergraduate and PhD degrees in computational chemistry with a focus on AI techniques to assess the synthetic accessibility of de novo design compounds. Christian continued this work with a post-doctoral fellowship on the automated design of targeted combinatorial libraries at the Department of Knowledge Engineering, Osaka University, Japan before moving into industry initially as a computational chemist and cheminformatician. Christian has a wide breadth of experience across companies ranging from startups to Pfizer and diverse therapeutic areas with a focus on informatics and predictive modeling but has also managed lab groups and automation teams including compound management and high-throughput purification. Christian joined Shire in 2015 leading Scientific Computing & Informatics before moving on to lead R&D IT in 2017. Christian remained with Takeda following its acquisition of Shire 2019 and is currently the Global Head of Scientific Informatics, covering technology and decision support across all of the scientific R&D functions from research to non-clinical development and pharmaceutical sciences. |

David has a background in biochemistry, immunology and molecular biology with a PhD from Imperial College, London and three years of academic post-doctoral experience. David has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years. He worked in big pharma at AstraZeneca for more than 17 years in a wide variety of R&D roles both in the UK and the US. Whilst at AstraZeneca he worked on numerous drug projects from target selection through to supporting market products. He was also heavily involved in an in-depth analysis of AZ’s drug portfolio and understanding why projects fail and was the lead author on AZ’s “5Rs Paper” describing the learnings from this exercise. David joined Blueberry Therapeutics as Chief Scientific Officer at the start of 2014. In this role, he is responsible for leading the research activities of the business which are focused on developing new treatments for common dermatological diseases. |

Since starting his career in 1997 as a graduate recruit in IT consultancy, James has continuously advanced through various data-related roles, technology platforms and geographies. It was in 2012 that James joined Baxter Healthcare in Switzerland as the IT Business Relationship Manager for ECEMEA, Russia and CIS – transitioning to pharmaceuticals and becoming involved in projects stretching across multiple disease states and disciplines. James transitioned through M&A to Baxalta in 2015 as the EMEA IT Program Office Director and then with the acquisition of Baxalta into Shire in 2018 became the Head of Commercial IT for the European region. Since 2019 and the subsequent acquisition of Shire by Takeda, James has led a Global Master Data Management program from within the ERP IT organization and is now the Global Head of Enterprise Data Platforms & Products at Takeda. |
